Justice Commentaries is a special interdisciplinary issue of Albany Law School’s flagship journal, the Albany Law Review. The sixteenth annual issue anticipates publishing in 2026. The theme for the 2025-2026 issue is: Reconstructing Social Justice in the Aftermath of President Trump's Inauguration: A Comprehensive Assessment of Recently Implemented, Repealed, or Modified Policies Along with a Review of Their Implications.

The main objective of this book is to obtain insight on the rule of law as a means to preserve social justice. In addition, this book aims to gain a balanced representation of differentiating viewpoints discussing recent alterations of law to discover the contemporary version of justice.

This year’s theme will encompass scholarship that explores presidential acts that criminalize and/or limit freedoms. More specifically, scholarship should explore the laws and procedures that have recently been created, modified, or repealed by the federal and/or state governments. Examples of subjects relating to these kinds of laws and policies include, but are not limited to:

(1) the collision of separation of powers in various sectors, such as labor law, administrative law, regulatory law, elder law, and poverty law;

(2) immigration policies and (in)justices;

(3) censorship versus freedom of speech, especially in education or press;

(4) the effect of executive powers on diversity, equity, and inclusion, or in gender-affirming care; or

(5) restrictions on reproductive rights and voting rights.

Interested authors should submit their curriculum vitae and articles directly through Scholastica or to lawreview@albanylaw.edu , with the subject line “Justice Submission." Articles will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all spots are filled.

We look forward to reviewing your submissions!
